The DAR conducted a transcription of a record for Chapman Farm Cemetery between 1973-4. It was published in Volume 417 of the Genealogical Records Committee Reports. Below is a scan of the record obtained from the New York State Library.
The Wisner Cemetery is located east of Olcott, so it is likely that, at the time the record was made, that a Chapman family owned the land. Something to look into in the future…
Since the 1910s, the Daughters of the American Revolution have been transcribing unpublished records to help preserve them. They then publish these as part of the Genealogical Record Committee (GRC) Reports.
One of the GRC Reports is a 208-page volume (#317 of the Cemetery, Church, and Town Record Reports) from the DAR Niagara Falls Chapter (of which I am a member) of records that were copied from the Niagara County Historian’s Office.
The report lists the name of the person that was buried, born, died, and the name of the cemetery.
The Niagara County Genealogical Society library has many records about local cemeteries that usually include tombstone readings and newspaper articles. The same is true for the Wisner Cemetery (aka Halstead Cemetery) in Newfane.
Within the Newfane Cemetery binder, the Wisner Cemetery includes newspaper articles, a written history, tombstone readings and pictures. Pictured below are two examples of the tombstone readings likely done in the 1970’s-80s.
Also known as Halstead Cemetery, the following digitized maps were found onĀ searchiqs.com. Info Quick Solutions, Inc. (IQS) is a site that the Niagara County Clerk has partnered with to digitize many of their books and maps.
These maps of Halstead (now known as Wisner) Cemetery were originally found in Book 12 on Page 1136-7. The first one doesn’t seem to have a date, but the second one is dated 1853.
